2023 Oram Award winner Cecilia “Cil” Morgan, also known as afromerm, is a South London-born sound artist, composer, producer and poet. Her practice combines poetry, electronic music, and vocal techniques to build intricate, evolving soundscapes that reference contemporary, jazz and cinematic sound-worlds. This work spans her solo project – afromerm – and commissions and collaborations with artists from various disciplines including music, film, movement and fine art. As afromerm, she has received recognition from various independent publications, NTS and BBC Radio being named a “Sonic Innovator” to watch in 2024 on the late Annie Nightingale's 2023 Boxing day show on BBC Radio 1, hosted by Martha. Cil has worked with clients such as Tate Britain and The Fitzwilliam Museum, as well as NYX electronic drone choir, via whom she worked on the Diablo IV soundtrack and toured NYX’s original live work in Australia in 2023.
